Creamy Farfalle Pasta – the stuff dreams are made of!
Creamy Pasta is something kids love a lot. For fussy eaters, moms find it very easy to sneak in veggies via a pasta dish. It is said that there are over 500 varieties of pasta in Italy (and most pastas are also paired with specific sauces), I reckon in our lifetime we might have savoured just a few – Penne, Sphagetti, Farfalle, Fussili, Macaroni being the most popular shapes in Indian markets (with a lot more exceptions in gourmet stores of course).
Pasta – Gluten Free or not
While the jury is out on Gluten Free Pasta or not, Red Sauce or White sauce, my kids are super fond of Penne in homemade Chunky Arrabiata sauce rather than a white sauce (which is actually reserved for when their friends come over – and that looks like a LONGGGGGG time coming!).
So I am too happy as a mom to get them to eat Gluten Free Pasta as much as possible. Even as early as 2015-16, GF pasta was not very popular in India (even metros).
The variety of GF pasta varieties available today even in local convenience stores or online- millet pastas, beet n spinach pasta, rice pasta – is mind boggling. And am a happy mom when a bowl of this gets finished off. I am not a pasta person, but if asked to choose, my fav would be this Jain -style pasta in a Gluten Free and vegan Corn Puree sauce with some Indian spice overtones.
Pasta Sauce – Cheese or not
While I have nothing personal against Cheesy white sauce, I think kids can benefit from a lower-salt intake and less processed cheese. If the sauce can be made creamy and tasty without cheese, then why not? Check out this recipe to do JUST that ! yes, this is a No-Maida, No Cheese, yet Creamy White Sauce Pasta
What to do with leftover pasta ?
Well, there are rarely leftovers, but with any leftover boiled pasta, we love this pasta pakora (yes, you heard that right). Of course, leftover pasta works great in casseroles or bakes too. Tell me in the comments how you would utilise left over pasta.
What do you serve Pasta with?
- Undoubtedly homemade Dominos-style garlic bread sticks(which always wins hands down)
- 5 min Herbed peppers (which is the current favourite)
- Wholewheat Garlic Monkey Pull Apart bread
- Garlic Cheese Bombs (you see a pattern, huh – garlic wins all the way ! ! 🙂

Like the way the gluten free pasta holds shape, looks like the normal ones. Always have wondered if the GF pasta would become mushy or not. As for the sauce, I too prefer using wholewheat flour for the sauce.
Thank you so much, Mayuri. If cooked well, GF pasta does hold shape very well. I prefer to use stove top rather than IP (Instant Pot) when using GF pasta. For regular Durum wheat, IP works so well !
