Apple Raita joins a long list of Raita (yoghurt based sides) that our family enjoys through the year, especially summers. These Raitas can double up as a meal most of the time, and this Apple raita is no different.

Of course, this is a Zero Cook dish which makes so much sense in these scorching summer to have a chilled meal like this by itself.  The credit to this Apple raita must go to the husband man who whipped this sometime last week, when we had a few apples left in the basket that no one would touch.

What are the major ingredients in this Apple Raita?

Apples – I used Red delicious. Fiji might be slightly tart. I am also guessing Granny Smith might also work, but the yogurt used should be sweet.

Basic spices – Salt, chilli powder (smoked paprika works best)

Herbs – Coriander / mint

Yogurt / Homemade Curd / Dahi  – well beaten to remove any lumps.

Prep time – 5 mins, Chilli time / Resting time – 30 mins, Serves – 3

Cuisine : Indian ; Course : Sides / Raita

  • 2 Apples (cored and sliced slightly thin, not wafer thin)
  • 1 cup Curd (Yogurt/ Dahi – click the video below to see how to make Homemade yoghurt) – chilled
  • 1/2 tsp Chaat Masala
  • 1 tsp Roasted Cumin powder (Bhuna Jeera Powder)
  • 1/4 tsp Black Salt (Kala Namak)
  • 1/2 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Mint leaves ( chopped, opt.)
