Airfryer Raw Banana Crisps
Raw Banana is chock—block full of fibre, nutrition and aids in digestion and weightless too. We use this raw banana is a whole lot of stir fries, curries, bhajiyas (deep fried fritters) , oven baked crisps (without chickpea flour) and a lot more. Why, this would work beautifully in the cabbage-Kofta curry where the cabbage could be easily replace by the parboiled (and shredded) raw banana. Our most fav dish with raw Banana has to be this Vazhakkai Podimas

USP of Airfryer Banana Crisps
Today’s dish – Airfryer Banana Crisps (BONUS – GF + Vegan) – is made in an airfryer. (My newest toy after the IP :p) but you could definitely bake this too in an oven – with some varying time. These crisps make for a very addictive snack as well as a delicious side to go with rice-curry or even grilled meats.
Are these like crisps (wafers?) No, the mouthfeel is much heartier and meaty. The slices are slightly thicker and coated in Chickpea flour (a.k.a Besan in India) along with basic kitchen spices, and baked to a crunchy and delicious snack.
My family loves this, and as the arifryer cuts down calories drastically (and therefore, NO Deep fry :p), its an easy peasy snack that pretty much comes together in 20 mins.
What are the main ingredients that go into these Airfryer Banana Crisps?
Raw Banana – Use the tender, yet firm ones (you want the skin to be as dark green as possible)
Chickpea flour – use the fresh variety
Rice flour – again, used for crispiness, you can use store bought Brown or white rice flour
Salt, turmeric and spices – basic spices are used here
Oil – Any neutral oil can be used. I used Sesame oil. Canola / Sunflower / Avocado works beautifully too.

FAQs:
- Can I use Ripe plantains ? No, Raw ones work best
- Can I use any other flour? Chickpeas + Rice flour work well for a GF dish
- Can I make it oil free ? This dish uses very little oi, but I haven’t tried making it oil free. If you do, please let me know in the comments below
- The crisps weren’t crisp / the crisps were burnt (duh!!) – Check pre heat settings closely. Each airfrryer / oven setting may vary. Make a small batch and check if you need to re-calibrated
- Does this freeze well? This is best had a few monutes just out of the oven. You can store it for upto a day on the kitchen counter.
- I don’t have an airfryer. Can these still be baked in an oven? Yes you can, just check the settings and temperature with a small batch.
