Moong Sama Chashwali Khichdi is a Gluten Free, millet based Nutritious One pot meal. Perfect for brunch or a light dinner.

When millets replace rice in most of our meals at home.

Moong little millet khichdi is again adapted from Hare moong ki chaashwali khichdi . I simply subbed the rice with millet and made some changes to the original recipe, adapting to what we like at home. Over the years, we have had runaway success with replacing rice with whole grains and millets like Millet Set Dosa, Ragi/ Finger millet Idli, little milet pongal and many many more recipes with millets. As it’s scorching hot right now and being in the kitchen for more than 20 mins is not feasible, this is again a life saver kind of meal where dump it all and cook works brilliantly.

How you can customise this recipe? Tips to make a Tasty Sama Moong khichdi

  • I have made this onion-garlic free, feel free to add them. Again, little millet is used here, if using rice / brown rice / other millets, the cook time would vary
  • For a more wholesome version (which we keep making), add a cup of fresh / frozen vggies (broccoli/ cauliflower / french beans / carrots / peas work well) and sauteed greens like we did here.
  • If you are vegan, try subbing the homemade yogurt here with a vegan curd. Or entirely skip it for a differently tasting khichdi.
  • Use slightly sour buttermilk if you are not using tomatoes
  • Add Garam masala, coriander powder, green chilly paste to make this more spicy.
